Part of the beauty of EVE is that it rewards longevity. The idea of lowering the standard just to entice new players, which is exactly what is being proposed, would destroy the game. I realize CCP is a business, but in reality it is doing just fine with the number of pilots it has. And people are still joining. If a new player can't be bothered to take time training the necessary skills and learning the game for themselves like all the rest of us did, then screw them and their perception. I'm all for choosing your own path in New Eden, be it mining, ratting, pirate, etc. But fundamentally changing the entire game so that it caters to the instant gratification generation of players will not only destroy the game, but also cause veteran players to abandon the game en masse. Also, how would the proposal to add SP when you pod someone help those who don't do PvP? What about miners, traders, etc.?
At the end of the day, you can only fly one ship at a time, even if you have every skill in the game maxed out. As has been previously commented, there is a difference between SP skill and the skill of the player. So while a new player may never 'catch up' to a veteran in overall SP, the existing mechanics of EVE means they don't have to in order to be effective or have fun. Case in point: I have been playing almost since EVE started, but I have been off and on. As a result, I am now learning from people whose characters are only a couple of years old, even though my own characters are older. And, as has been mentioned by others, the only real advantage veteran players have over newbies (aside from knowledge and experience, if they bothered to accrue any) is more options and choices over what they fly.
The only change I would like to see made to skill training in EVE is either longer skill ques or the ability to set skills to train without having to log into the game client. Other than that, things are fine the way they are. Bottom line is that changing EVE skill training to make it more like DUST would be a grave mistake.
